"LSU Tiger Stadium"
Every time we drive by the LSU Tiger Stadium, I can not believe how huge the place is. Not only is it really big, but the feeling I get when I see it is "awe". It gives me chills for some reason. Maybe these facts about the LSU Tiger Stadium will help to explain why.
- The stadium's nickname is "Death Valley" because it is so freaking loud during football games! A lot of other teams also die when playing here.
- On October 6, 2007 a new attendance record was set in the LSU Tiger Stadium. 92,910 people were in the stadium to watch LSU whip up on Florida. CBS recorded a sound level of 115 decibels during that game. Yes, that's very loud!
- Even former coach Bear Bryant hated playing in the LSU Tiger Stadium. He said that it was like playing in a drum. The shape of the stadium seems to focus all of the noise onto the field.
- In 2007 ESPN called the stadium the scariest place to play in. They also said that the LSU Tiger Stadium is the loudest stadium, by far.
- The stadium opened in 1924. The grandstands could hold 12,000 fans.
- In 1931, 10,000 more seats were added.
- 24,000 more seats were added in 1936, bringing the total to 46,000.
- In 1978 the seating capacity was raised to 78,000.
- LSU Tiger Stadium was improved a lot during the 1980's, and the seating capacity was increased to 80,150.
- The east upper deck was completed by 2000 so that the stadium could hold 91,600.
- In 2006 the capacity was increased to 92,400.
- The "earthquake game" was in 1988 when LSU beat Auburn. The screams from the fans actually registered as an earthquake.
- The first night game in the LSU Tiger Stadium was in 1931 against Spring Hill. LSU won by a score of 35-0.
